Well known community figure Hajj Khaled Alameddine, General Manager of Feed the World, delivered the keynote address.

“We named this event ‘A Trust on Our Shoulders’ because responding to Gaza is an amanah from Allah,” Hajj Khaled said, referencing Islamic teachings on communal responsibility.

“When any part of the Ummah suffers, we must respond with action and dua.”

He outlined a threefold approach:

  1. Immediate humanitarian assistance through food and medical aid distribution
  2. Continued advocacy including political engagement
  3. Education initiatives to maintain awareness of Palestine’s situation

“While emergency relief remains critical,” he noted, “we must also address the root causes through sustained efforts.”

The program featured moving testimonies from attendees with connections to Gaza and addresses from a number of well-known mashayekh.

Lakemba Mosque imam, Sheikh Yahya Safi.

While two very raw, powerful video presentations provided attendees with a stark update of the current conditions in Gaza.

Events such as  “Gaza: A Trust on Our Shoulders” demonstrate how community gatherings serve as vital platforms for both fundraising and facilitating direct action.

They provide community members with verified channels to contribute aid, opportunities to hear from trusted organisations about conditions on the ground, and spaces to collectively respond to crises in accordance with Islamic principles of social responsibility.
